Swindolls named to national Young Farmer Committee
Patrick and Kim Swindoll of Hernando have been named to the American
Farm Bureau Young Farmer and Rancher Committee. The YF&R program is
composed of Farm Bureau members between the ages of 18 and 35. The program’s
goal is to provide leadership development to build a more effective Farm
Bureau though education, problem solving and network building.
Mississippi Farm Bureau President David Waide said that young people are
the future of agriculture. “We need more people like Patrick and
Kim to step up and do the things necessary to keep agriculture going in
this country,” said Waide. “If we don’t, we’re
going to be dependent on others to feed and clothe us and we can’t
survive as a nation like that.”
“We’re going to get lots of media training,” said Patrick.
“They will be equipping us to be ambassadors for agriculture. Kim
and I are really looking forward to it.”
Committee members are responsible for the YF&R Program planning which
includes the operation of YF&R contests during AFBF’s annual
meeting, along with planning and implementation of the YF&R Leadership
Conference held in February. They will be given the tools necessary to
become leaders through intensive training on issues along with the honing
of other professional skills.
In addition, committee members attend two more business meetings a year.
Every other year, a meeting is held in Washington, D.C., where they participate
in a “Day on the Hill” event, visiting with each of their
members of Congress, helping to inform them about the issues facing agriculture
in America.
