Farm Bureau honors Norquist with Friend of Agriculture Award

Jackson – The Mississippi Farm Bureau Federation presented its Friend of Agriculture Award to Representative David Norquist of Cleveland in Bolivar County. Representative Norquist is Vice-Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee and also serves on the Agriculture Committee. He represents District 28 serving Bolivar, Sunflower, and Washington counties.

“Representative Norquist was very instrumental in helping Farm Bureau pass the Country of Origin labeling bill for catfish,” said Farm Bureau President David Waide. “He also has helped with extending the repealer on the Rice Promotion Fund and has been on Farm Bureau’s side on the issue of eminent domain.”

“I see my role in the legislature to be the voice of the people of my district and that district is mainly composed of agriculture,” said Rep. Norquist. “It’s my job and duty to do everything I can to protect this industry. Working closely with Farm Bureau helps me do that.”

In presenting the award, Farm Bureau President David Waide pointed out that as rural representation in the Mississippi Legislature becomes less and less, agriculture must rely on its friends to enact legislation that would support and strengthen agriculture.

Representative Norquist is a member of the City of Cleveland Volunteer Fire Department. He is also a member of the Mississippi Defense Lawyers Association, the Defense Research Institute and the American Bar Association.
